Thales UK Leads the Way in VoIP Services

23 November 2005

Thales UK has been awarded a multi-million pound services contract to upgrade the telephony platform for the Government backed RailNet network. As a result of this contract, advanced Internet Protocol (IP) telephony services will be delivered to some 65,000 users across the country as the services domain of Thales UK delivers 140 new Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) enabled systems for Ericsson.

This platform will provide cost-effective, seamless communications for voice, intranet, local-area network, wide-area network and public network traffic using IP-based communications. When fully deployed, this integration will cover fixed and mobile telephony, IP phones, PC soft phones, cordless phones, mobile phones, digital phones and IP gateways.

Commenting on the award of this contract, Justin Walker, Thales UK Managing Director of the Services Division, said: "This achievement demonstrates the level of commitment that Thales UK invests in providing skilled service provision and cutting edge solutions, a commitment that in this instance has been recognised by an existing customer."

This contract award comes hand-in-hand with Thales UK achieving Advanced Business Partner status for the Ericsson product portfolio in recent weeks, an addition to their previous Authorised Business Partner status. The only Advanced Business Partner in the UK, Thales UK is able to offer 'one stop' voice solutions to its customers offering design, supply, installation and maintenance services.

Within the ICT* field, Thales UK provides consulting, design, implementation and total life-cycle support services centred around IT infrastructure and applications. With over 1,000 highly trained mobile engineers and technicians across the UK, backed by a leading task management centre, Thales UK is firmly committed to supporting the technologies of today and of the future.
