BERNMOBIL Chooses RockDelta Vibration Isolation Mats

16 July 2008

RockXolid® 50 has been installed for BERNMOBIL in the Bahnhofplatz area. The solution was chosen based upon performance, unique lifetime expectancy and fast installation.

BUNDESGASSE

The streets around Bahnhofplatz are undergoing refurbishment including vibration isolation of the tramway tracks. The first section is in Bundesgasse, which runs one block south of the Bahnhofplatz.

SOLUTION – ROCKXOLID VIBRATION ISOLATION MATS

BERNMOBIL has used stone wool for vibration isolation for many years. RockBallast® 50 was chosen as the new and modern version which has been developed and manufactured in such a fashion as to prevent deflections and to secure many years of unchanged performance.

The stone wool is specially developed for this kind of application (through a very high density) and tested for a durability which significantly surpasses the expected lifetime of the other components of the track. The dynamic stiffness according to ISO 10846-2 and the dynamic bed modulus according to Deutsche Bahn BN 918 071-1 were measured by Ingemansson Technology on eight occasions during a fatigue test of 100 million cycles. The changes over time were negligible and the permanent deflection is approximately 1.6mm – even after 100 million impacts.

SOLUTION ROCKXOLID VIBRATION ISOLATION MATS

RockXolid comes in a number of versions, both softer and harder, to comply with the requirements in each installation. All solutions are made of stone wool. The softer, thicker solutions consist of two layers.

VIBRATION ISOLATION MATS INSTALLATION

The installation was performed by in the first half of 2007. As it can be seen from the pictures, the mats are easily cut to dimension. No glue or other fixation is required. The delivery was carried out in cooperation with Flumroc, Flums, an associated company of Rockwool in the stone wool business in Switzerland. The job was done by Fa Kästli, who subcontracted it to Fa Weibel.
