Modular Power Supply System with PFC-Input Delivers up to 600W in Railway and Industrial Environments

08 December 2005

Absopulse Electronics' 3PFC280-24BR is a rugged, modular AC/DC power supply system with power factor corrected (PFC) input. Designed to meet the stringent requirements of railway signaling, communications and train control systems, this power supply is also suitable for other harsh-environment applications where electromagnetic compatibility, high operating temperatures, condensation and rugged construction are important considerations.

The 3PFC280-24BR is comprised of three, 200W plug-in modules in a 3U x 19in x 13in chassis, allowing for output power of up to 600W, or 400W with N+1 redundancy. Each plug-in module provides 24V at 8.3A, with a maximum current output of 25A for three modules or 17A for N+1 redundant operation. Six distribution breakers located on the front-panel are equipped with alarm contacts summarized into a form C output to indicate tripping, with a second form C alarm output available for the plug-in module alarms. The 3PFC280-24BR has a universal input range of 90Vac to 264Vac, with power factor correction of 0.97 provided over the entire input range to meet EN61000-3-2 (harmonic content).

The system is rated for full specification from 0°C to 70°C with forced air cooling (cabinet fans), and from 0°C to 50°C with convection cooling. It is ruggedly constructed, with each plug-in module being supported by four guide rails. Conformal coating provides protection against high levels of humidity. It is filtered to meet the requirements for EN55022 Class B EMI emissions as well as the immunity criteria specified under EN50155 and EN50121-3-2.
