Absopulse Electronics Releases New 150W, Rugged DC/DC Converter for Railway Environments

27 September 2010

Absopulse Electronics' RWY 150 Series rugged, railway quality DC/DC converter utilizes high efficiency power conversion topology to deliver 150W output power. It complies fully with the rigorous standards defined in EN 50155 for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock and is therefore suitable for a wide range of on-board and track-side applications.

The RWY 150 operates within a -40°C to +70°C cold plate temperature range at full specification. Full encapsulation in a thermally conductive MIL-grade silicon rubber compound ensures resistance to shock and vibration (meets EN61373/IEC61373), moisture and airborne contaminants. It measures 58mm x 54mm x 181mm and weighs approximately 800g.

This 150W unit delivers outputs of 12V or 24VDC; it accepts supply voltages of 24VDC (14.4V-34V range), 36VDC (22V-51V range), 48VDC (29V- 67V range), 72VDC (43V-101V range), 96VDC (58V-135V range) or 110VDC (66V-154V range). Other input and output values are available on request.

Low component count, large design headroom, and the use of components with established reliability result in a high MTBF. The RWY 150 is filtered to meet EN 55022 Class B EMI, as well as EN50121-3-2 conducted and radiated. Input protection features include inrush current limiting and reverse polarity protection. The unit meets the input protection requirements defined in EN50155 and EN50121-3-2 including EN 61000-4-2 (ESD), EN61000-4-3 (RF immunity), EN61000-4-4 (fast transients), EN61000-4-6 (conducted immunity), EN50155 (surge and voltage variations).
