750VDC Input DC / DC Converter for Railway Applications Delivers 300W

15 July 2008

Absopulse Electronics has recently released the HVI 300 series, a 300W addition to its line of high input voltage DC / DC converters. The unit accepts 750VDC input voltage (525V – 975VDC range), which is the traction voltage typically required for mass transit vehicles such as trams, metros and light rail units, and for mining locomotives. The standard series delivers 12VDC, 24VDC, 36VDC or 48VDC, with other output voltages available on request. An optional built-in redundancy diode would allow for a number of units to be connected in parallel to achieve higher output power or N+1 redundancy.

The HVI 300 meets the requirements of EN50155 for electronic equipment used on rolling stock and is filtered to meet EN 50121-3-2 EMI/EMC.

Heavy ruggedising and conformal coating provide immunity to shock, vibration, humidity and moisture. The HVI 300 is designed to meet IEC 61373 categories 1 A and B shock and vibration standards. It is fan cooled and rated for -25°C to 55°C for full specification, with wider temperature ranges also available.

The unit features high efficiency, low output noise and full protection on the input and output. To ensure high reliability and long operating life, all critical components on the primary side are designed and tested for corona inception levels significantly higher than the operating voltages.
