PICMG Approves Connectors for CompactPCI Plus

26 March 2009

MEN Mikro Elektronik, one of the leading members of the PICMG CompactPCI Plus working group, has announced the members have agreed on the connectors to be used. This is a decisive step towards standardization of CompactPCI Plus.

The first connector to be chosen was the UHM connector from 3M which is completely compatible mechanically to the HM connector for CompactPCI, but allows for data transfer rates of up to 5GB/s, which are required for serial signals.

For the new generation of CompactPCI Plus boards the AirMax connector from FCI (second source from Amphenol) was chosen, which is expected to support data transfer rates of up to 12GB/s.
