The plot of the movie revolves around the flight of an American spacecraft to Mars in the 80s. The crew of the ship until the last moment believed that they would fly to the red planet. However, the calculations of scientists showed that the flight was impossible - they would either not be able to fly at all, or would die on return.

So the government decided to falsify the flight - to launch a rocket without the astronauts and broadcast fake footage from the rocket to earth. The astronauts found out about this just before the launch, when they were taken off the rocket and placed in a bunker.

Because the astronauts were too ideological (unlike Armstrong, Collins, Aldrin and others) - and would not agree to cover up the forgery - they were removed.

They managed to escape from the base and were pursued. At the end of the long chase, only one astronaut survived and managed to get to Washington, D.C., where his own funeral was being held in a solemn ceremony. There he was caught live in the camera lenses. At this point the movie ended. So the story revealed the scam of the U.S. government.
