Operational testing of the TEM23-0002 shunting locomotive

The newest shunting diesel locomotive TEM23-0002, built at the Bryansk Machine-Building Plant (BMZ, part of Transmashholding JSC), has been sent to Russian Railways JSC for operational testing.


The shunting locomotive is undergoing operational tests at the Bryansk II depot. The tests will last three months. During this period, the functioning of all equipment modules, components and elements of the locomotive will be checked under real operating conditions. The technical condition and reliability of the locomotive, its maintainability will be assessed, and the replacement of equipment and spare parts will be checked. During trial operation, monitoring of the operation of the diesel locomotive and technical support is provided by specialists from BMZ, TMH Engineering (part of TMH) and the AokoTech company .

Upon completion of supervised operation, TEM23 will return to the plant to analyze the work performed and the demonstrated technical characteristics of the locomotive. The data obtained will be taken into account in the subsequent operation of diesel locomotives of this series.
The plant received a certificate for serial production of TEM23 at the end of 2022. To date,
two copies of shunting diesel locomotives of this series. The first one was transferred to PJSC Severstal in May for controlled and demonstration operation at the Cherepovets Metallurgical Plant. Currently, work is underway to assemble the third locomotive.

TEM23 is the latest shunting diesel locomotive that combines the most current trends in global locomotive engineering : the use of domestic components, the use of high-tech components, the ability to expand the functions of the control system. This is the first diesel locomotive, the design of which is made in accordance with the “Brand DNA” concept adopted by TMH, developed by the national center for industrial design and innovation “2050.LAB”. Its appearance reflects the company's new approach to the development of railway equipment.
